Commissioning - own something unique

A unique experience - a unique piece of furniture

The commissioning process is collaboration between client and craftsman.

It is intensely satisfying to be involved in the creation of something personal, original and individual. Having something which is a reflection of lifestyle and which has been designed to be in harmony with your surroundings is a unique experience. It allows you to make the decision on what you want for your home, not a high street retailer who has limited options.

A commissioned piece of furniture involves the client in each phase of the design process. It is a culmination of ideas, requirements and vision to ensure the finished piece meets the expectations of the client. Each commissioned piece is exciting to work on because of the uniqueness and the clients' contribution is essential.

Starting the commissioning process

Commissioning a piece of furniture typically begins with a visit to the Gallery where prospective clients can view the current items being showcased. This often aids inspiration and the exchange of ideas. It can also be through a telephone call or email.

This will be followed by an introductory client visit where the ideas on the requirements can be discussed and an initial design outlined. Information will be gathered concerning the types of hard woods which may be used, and the position of the finished piece is also of prime importance. Drawings will be created and additional investigation on variations will be conducted, under no obligation, and sent through to the client for their review. Further meetings or updates will be arranged until the client is satisfied with the design.

A comprehensive letter outlining specification, total cost and completion date will be sent.

To begin work on any commissioned piece a 30%-50% deposit is required.

Regular contact with the client is actively encouraged and visiting the workshop is recommended to ensure, as the furniture progresses, the clients' wishes continue to be met.

Unique furniture using the finest wood

Furniture trends vary. But all the specialist, beautiful hardwoods used are from sustainable resources .Currently lighter woods such as Maple, American Ash are popular, but English Oak and Walnut remain perennially fashionable. Darker timbers such as Mahogany are ideally suited to larger pieces. Today, there is an abundance of choice and by using traditional and contemporary techniques high quality, aesthetically pleasing, enduring pieces of furniture are created.
